UK unemployment fell by 57,000 in the three months to June, bringing the jobless rate down to 4.4%. Meanwhile the July claimant count fell by 4,200. One of the reason – is the new later state pension age for women. And average weekly earnings increased by 2.1% compared with a year earlier - slightly higher than last month's 2% increase. But UK inflation is still at 2.6% which means real earnings are still falling. The Eurozone continues to grow, expanding 0.6% in the second quarter, in line with expectations, with Germany and Spain doing especially well. And Italy grew for the tenth quarter in a row. She doesn't go to university, she is in gainful employment. Sort of. She works eight hours a day, five days a week at a call centre selling televisions. Her salary is 20 euros. Not per hour, not per day -- it's 20 euros a week. Mary lives at home with her parents and brother. Her father, a decorator, has little work. Her mother cleans houses. Their monthly income is minimal. So why does she stay in her current job? Mary says she has no choice: "Because I haven't found anything else and because I'm at an age where I can't ask for money all the time from my parents, because I don't want to as they are in a difficult situation as well. So, I don't want to burden them. I take the 20 euros per week and I get through my week with all my expenses but this money only lasts for 3-4 days, after that I'm out of money." Mary and her family are Albanian of Greek ethnicity. They came to Greece in search of a better life during the country's boom years. Today, that better life seems little more than a pipe dream. But she isn't angry: "We have reached a point that we never expected to. We don't even have a euro to buy necessary things like bread or milk, for instance. So, it's not that I'm angry, it's desperation. It's a pity because there are so many other young people in the same situation." Mary belongs to the growing ranks of young people unable to find work. And this phenomenon is not unique to Greece. Throughout the European Union, the biggest victims of the eurozone crisis have been Europe's youngest workers: those under the age of 25. In eighteen out of 27 EU member states, youth unemployment is over 20 percent. But for Ireland, Slovakia, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece as many as one in two people in this age bracket have no job. In total, Europe has 27 million people out of work. Nick Malkoutzis is Deputy Editor of the Greek newspaper 'Kathimerini'. He has written extensively on the problem of Europe's youth unemployment, which he says should include those under 30 years of age. He is warning that a young generation, with little future, is the main ingredient in an explosive political and social cocktail that EU leaders can no longer ignore: "Well clearly when you have seven out of ten young people unemployed and a lot of those disappointed, apoplectic about the opportunity of finding work, then you create a dangerous social situation and I guess it has two real ways you can see it developing. One is that you see a lot of young Greeks going abroad, that has started to some extent. We have 120 thousand graduates studying and working abroad over the last few years and the other is that they become so disappointed and angry with the political system, the decision makers in Greece, they turn to rather extreme solutions. " Since Greece signed its first EU-IMF bailout three years ago, demonstrations have become an all too-familiar sight. A young generation protesting against what the baby boomer political generation has left them: a eurozone crisis, wage cuts, higher taxes and a shrinking job market with no room for young people. But last month, a sign that Europe's two biggest economies, Germany and France, have woken up and smelled the social crisis coffee. Angela Merkel and François Hollande announced a new vision of Europe which would include investing in the EU's young - a so called "New Deal". France's President Holland said he wants more focus on the problem: "We would like it [Europe] to pay more attention to the job situation, especially jobs for the young." Germany's Angela Merkel is aware a structural change is happening: "If you look at the [austerity] programmes adopted in Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal or in Ireland, you will notice that it's not just a question of budget consolidation. These are massive reforms that are completely changing these countries." Critics have argued the 'massive reforms' in these countries are virtually erasing the young from the job market. But under this so-called 'New Deal' the plan is to use some 6 billion euros to finance jobs in small and medium businesses across the EU. There will also be funding for language and training courses, so people can move to where the jobs are. Namely Germany and Austria. The contrast is even sharper looking at the figures for the young. More than 5 million of them have no work, overall 23.5 percent, while in Greece and Spain more than half of them are unemployed. It is urgent to respond to this, leaders at a summit in Brussels reconfirmed last week, deciding at Germany and France's initiative to deploy measures like President Hollande proposed when he was running for office last year. The plan is to give loans to help, as a priority, regions where the young work pool is worst affected. Also under consideration is to guarantee young people inactive for at least four months a job offer, training programme or internship. The goal is to not let them stop trying. This is with the consequences in mind for society at large and for the individual, especially those not in work for a long time. That's particularly the case for young people with no qualifications. Inactivity can affect their working life in the long term while hampering personal development immediately, potentially leading to despair or violence. There is, however, a positive undercurrent, in Spain for example, where young people have returned to the classroom in many cases, such as those who left school tempted by work in the former construction boom. They're studying again, and the school dropout rate has fallen by two points in a year. One returnee student said: "You think it's not necessary to study, because you're 17 and earning 900 euros a month and you think it's a big deal." The WHU course 'Global Societal Challenges and Solutions' is held in close collaboration with the Global Economic Symposium (GES). The Global Economic Symposium (http://www.global-economic-symposium.org) aims to identify global challenges, examine their policy and business implications, and formulate concrete action responses to them. In this seminar, students analyze current challenges of the global society and develop concrete measures of how to address these. Each team provided an in-depth analysis of the underlying macro-economic factors as well as a concrete action plan, describing how their idea can be implemented. To convey their ideas to the GES and to a broader audience in general, the students also produced videos describing their specific idea. The student team F. Griggat, C. Knopf, N. Marx and T. Rausch investigated youth unemployment in Europe and presented a specific solution of how to foster foreign apprentice socialization in Germany. The students suggest an internet platform that allows foreign apprentices to find a local buddy in Germany that helps them to find a job and to settle in Germany.

Five point two million young people are currently unemployed in the European Union. That’s a scandal. Youth unemployment in Europe is running at more than twice the adult rate. One in four young people are without a job. But the number rises to more than 50 percent in countries such as Spain and Greece. The much applauded Youth Guarantee is underfunded and failing. Now, the new European Commission has an opportunity to save a generation from desolation. http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=26&langId=en This animation explains what will happen to your right to unemployment benefits if you live and work in more than one country of the European Union or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. In particular, can years worked in other countries be taken into account to meet national conditions of entitlement? And can you look for a job in another country and still carry on receiving your unemployment benefits? EU rules on social security coordination enable you to move around Europe and not lose out on your social security rights.

For one of our viewers Europe's need for extra labour in a time of high unemployment is something of a conundrum. Carmen in Madrid asks: "In the debate over immigration it's often said that EU countries need more workers. How is that possible when we have such high unemployment rates?" Michelle Leigton of the International Labour Organisation responds: "The answer is that Europe is facing a declining (ageing) labour force. And actually, it is going to lose about 22 million people over the nex… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2015/05/01/labour-shortage-amid-high-unemployment-europe-s-jobs-paradox What are the top stories today? Experts have told a conference in Brussels the European Union project will be destined to collapse unless young people in the bloc are provided with more opportunities particularly with regards to quality jobs. Youth unemployment is still out of control in several Eurozone countries, most notably in Greece, Spain and Italy. Press TV's Jerome Hughes reports. UK unemployment rate remains at its lowest level since 1975 and wages begin to increase and the Eurozone economy remains on track. Balfour Beatty is the best performer in Europe after stronger-than-expected earnings news as it continues to focus on winning British infrastructure contracts, posting an almost 70 percent rise in half-year profit – saying a two-year overhaul had restored its British construction unit to profit. {ANI} And Admiral posted a 1 percent increase in profit before tax for the first six months of the year. However, costs from an increase in the British government's personal injury rate hampered the firm's growth and the company is trading in the red today. #forexnews @CVecchioFX @DavidJSong @MBForex @JamieSaettele @JohnKicklighter @ilyaspivak @ForexYell @JStanleyFX @DRodriguezFX @PaulRobinsonFX
